Another BTC Ward Represents Saint Lucia Overseas

Yet another ward attached to the Boys Training Centre (BTC) has represented the island in an excellent manner overseas.

In April, the promising BTC ward was selected to deliver the Vote of Thanks at the joint launch of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), funded OASYS and CariSECRUE 2.0 projects in neighboring Antigua and Barbuda.

The ward is a member of the USAID Eastern and Southern Caribbean (ESC) Youth Council, which is a grouping of 15 young people from across the region who find ways to support the work done by USAID in the Caribbean.

The BTC ward expressed his pleasure in being given the opportunity, to not only travel but to represent his country Saint Lucia at such a high-level engagement and participate in an initiative that critically touches the lives of young people like himself.

BTC Manager Wang Sonson said the ward’s selection was a testament to his potential and personal growth but also spoke volumes of the varied transformational and rehabilitative programs of the BTC, which are supported, in large measure, by USAID, government and a host of other donor partners.

Among dignitaries in attendance at the April 18th, 2023 joint launch were Antigua & Barbuda’s Senior Minister for Health, Wellness, Social Transformation and the Environment Hon. Molwyn Joseph, officials of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), OECS Ministers for Social Development and Director General of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission Dr. Didacus Jules.

Both OASYS and CariSECURE 2.0 are initiatives that seek to empower young people via reforms that will provide opportunities for meaningful engagement and empowerment.
